MINI Rocketman concept approved for production - report

Could be launched in 2014

MINI has a knack for turning concepts into production vehicles, so it comes as little surprise the company has reportedly green-lighted the Rocketman concept.

Set to be launched in 2014, the entry-level model will lose most of the futuristic styling details but should retain the 3+1 seating arrangement, center-mounted exhaust and two-piece tailgate with a lower section that opens like a kitchen drawer.

Engine options remain a bit of a mystery, but Auto Express says we can expect a new range of three-cylinders to be offered. Furthermore, there are rumors of an EV variant but nothing is official as of yet.
