Lotus Elan delayed to 2016 - at the earliest

The Evora gets a reprive

If you were hoping Lotus' massive product expansion would go off without a hitch, you'd better keep dreaming as the company has announced the Elan will be delayed until 2016 - at the earliest.

While Lotus declined to give an explanation, they told Car and Driver the Evora will be "allowed to have a more traditional life-cycle." This is notable because the Elan was slated to be launched in 2013 and replace the aforementioned model. While this is unfortunate, a variety of Evora variants - such as a convertible and track-oriented model - will likely be unveiled in the coming years.

Despite delay, Lotus has reaffirmed plans to launch the Esprit in 2013. Consider our fingers crossed.
